2014–2015 Restoration of two bird-catching buildings, Moruzzo (UD)
Restoration and adaptive reuse of two bird-catching buildings
The intervention concerns the restoration and enhancement of two historic bird-catching structures, traditional examples of local rural culture that had fallen into a state of ruin. The project aimed to preserve the historical memory of the “bressane”, reinterpreting them as service and resting spaces supporting the use of a private park, while maintaining the recognizable identity of the original buildings.
The volumes were consolidated and given new functions: the smaller building houses restrooms and storage, while the main two-storey structure was transformed into a resting and refreshment point. Inside, a stove was installed and the existing wooden floor slab was replaced with a new glass structure, designed to increase natural light and create a more contemporary spatial perception.
Particular attention was given to the natural context and the educational value of the intervention: the surrounding tree system was enhanced and made accessible again, preserving the historical memory of the activity without reinstating bird-catching nets, thus transforming the site into a place for storytelling and cultural transmission.
