2008–2011 Church of the Holy Trinity, Mortegliano (UD)
Restoration project of the Church of the Holy Trinity
The Church of the Holy Trinity dates back to 1602. Its walls are steeped in history: among other functions, it once hosted one of the seats of the Holy Inquisition, and during the war period the church stood within a strategic context, to the point that General Eisenhower himself stopped in Mortegliano. For this reason, the building is protected by the Regional Heritage Authority for Historical, Architectural, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Assets of Friuli Venezia Giulia, both for its architectural value and for the numerous works of art of inestimable value preserved within it.
The intervention involved the entire building envelope: complete reconstruction of the roof, renewal of high-level maintenance walkways, securing of the artistic vaults, restoration of masonry and plasters, and renewal of the electrical and heating systems. The project also included the restoration of the 18th-century frescoes by the Udine artist Pietro Venier, the altars and altarpieces, as well as the relocation of the marble statues of St. John and St. Paul, which had been moved to a nearby church almost a century earlier.
