2023-2024 Restoration of the Mortegliano Cathedral (UD)

Restoration of the Mortegliano Cathedral (UD)

The restoration of the Mortegliano Cathedral became urgent following the severe hailstorm of July 2023, which caused extensive damage throughout the building: destruction of the roof covering, localized failure of brick supports, broken windows, damage to walls and stone elements, as well as the perforation and loss of metal roofing components, including the central lantern, sheet metal cladding, gutters and downpipes. The resulting water infiltration led to rapid deterioration, affecting timber structures, wall paintings, interior surfaces and, in part, the furnishings.

The availability of detailed surveys previously carried out by the studio proved essential for the immediate response, enabling rapid damage assessment, emergency securing works and the development of a restoration project for a building of exceptional historical and artistic value. The cathedral houses the Martini Altarpiece, one of the most significant works of art in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
